Nathan Lyon is one of the greatest spinners that Australia have ever produced. Lyon is now fully ready for the Test assignment against Pakistan.
The Australian spinner is standing on the cusp of a huge landmark. He needs just four scalps to capture 500 wickets in Test cricket.
Ahead of the first Test gainst Pakistan in Perth, Lyon heaped massive praise on veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. He explained how Ashwin has unofficially worked as ‘coach’ for him throughout his career. The Australian spinner even called the veteran Indian off-spinner as a ‘world-class bowler’.
“You look at Ashwin, he is a world-class bowler and somebody I have watched closely from the start of his career. We have gone head-to-head many times in different conditions around the world. I have got nothing but respect for Ashwin and the way he has gone about it,” said Lyon during a recent interaction.
“I have definitely learned from him. There is an opportunity to learn from the people you play against, and without knowing it he is probably been one of my biggest coaches in a way. It’s pretty amazing to see we are both creeping up to that 500 mark, and we’ll see where we end up. Hopefully at the end of our career we’ll sit down and have a nice feed and a beer and talk about it,” the Australian spinner added.
Notably, Ashwin sits at 489 Test wickets at present.
