Speculations are rife that veteran Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and five-time Member of Parliament (MP) from Bhubaneswar, Prasanna Patasani may quit the ruling party in Odisha and join Opposition BJP.

As per sources, Patasani was hopeful of bagging BJD ticket from Bhubaneswar Parliamentary seat for the ongoing 2024 General Elections. However, he was eventually denied ticket by the party.

Subsequently, there were discussions in the political circle that Patasani will be made a party candidate from Chilika Assembly constituency. The name of the candidate for the Assembly seat is yet to be announced. However, there has been reportedly strong revolt within the party against Patasani’s candidature from Chilika. Hence, there is less chance that Patasani will bag a ticket from the seat.

As per sources, Patasani is grieved over the recent development. Political experts are of the opinion that the veteran leader has got a clear message from the party that no ticket would be given to him; and this could be the main reason why Patasani is mulling to leave BJD. It has also been revealed by sources that Patasani has already initiated discussions with the BJP and he is likely to join the saffron party soon.

Earlier on Friday evening, Patasani had met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas. However, no reaction could be obtained from Patasani about his discussions with Patnaik and regarding his future plans.

A few days back, former BJD MLA Priyadarshi Mishra had left the BJD to join BJP.
