With barely one day left for the third phase of election in Odisha, one more pre-poll violence incident has been reported in the State. A supporter of independent candidate Soumya Ranjan Patnaik was allegedly attacked by BJD workers at Ghasipura Assembly constituency in Keonjhar on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as Basanta Chakra who is a resident of Pandua village. Basant has sustained injuries in the attack. He has been admitted to Saintala Community Health Centre in a critical condition.

As per reports, independent candidate from Ghasipura constituency, Soumya Ranjan Patnaik had met Basant due to some work. Following the development, as many as six supporters of BJD candidate Badri Narayan Patra came in two vehicles and allegedly attacked Basant.

Basant sustained critical injuries in the process. He was immediately rushed to Sainkul Community Health Centre and his health condition is stated to be critical. Tension prevailed in the area following the incident.

Patnaik met Basant at the hospital and alleged that the victim was attacked by Patra’s supporters.

Ghasipura police have started an investigation into the incident. As per police sources, raids are being carried out at different places to nab the culprits.

However, no reactions from Patnaik or Patra could be obtained in this regard.
