Ahead of the 2024 general elections, senior Congress leader and Jatani MLA, Suresh Routray announced his retirement from electoral politics on Friday. 

A six-time MLA from Jatani constituency, Routray has completed 50 years in active politics. To celebrate this feat, the Jatani Nagarika Committee organised a programme where Routray was felicitated. 

On the occasion, he made his retirement announcement.

“My younger son Manmath Routray will fill my shoes. It is yet to be finalized from which party he will contest. Whichever party will field him, we will vote him to power. Jatani people today assured me that they would ensure his victory,” said Routray. 

When asked which party he would join, junior Routray said, “Making use of whatever knowledge and experience I have, I will take a decision.”
