Senior Congress leader and Jatni MLA, Suresh Routray’s son Manmath Routray left his job as a Captain of Air India on Tuesday to join active politics in Odisha.

Manmath, the youngest son of Suresh Routray has been helping his father in politics and constituency management for the last few years.

Speaking to OTV, Manmath said, “Air India has given me immense prestige and opportunity. I had 24 more years of service left with Air India. I was teaching and mentoring the freshers and was at the peak of my career growth. So leaving the organisation was never easy.”

“As far as my political aspirations are concerned, I too want to be an inspiring leader like my father. But politics is not my end goal. I want to serve the people anyway possible. As our Prime Minister says, he is the Pradhan Sevak, I too aspire to be of service to people,” Manmath said.

"I love Jatni and want to play a decisive role in its development. People have gradually begun to accept me and I am glad to see the reception I am getting from the people of Jatni,” he added.

However, he did not reveal which party he would join, saying that he has resigned but his organisation is yet to accept it.

It is pertinent to mention here that Suresh Routray had earlier announced his younger son Manmath’s plan to join politics. He had said in February that Manmath will now make an entry into politics and contest the elections from Jatni Assembly Constituency.
