In a bid to curb post-poll violence in Ganjam, police have taken various restrictive measures. Given some instances of past incidents, police have imposed restrictions on the opening of liquor shops to maintain law and order till the poll results are out.

Addressing a presser at Chhatrapur on Tuesday, Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena said, "Ganjam Police are committed to maintaining law and order. We are now focused on preventive policing. Liquor shops will be allowed to open till 8 pm every day till June 4, the day of vote counting.”

Besides, hotels, tea stalls and roadside eateries have been requested to operate till 1.30 pm every day till June 4, the SP added.

Meanwhile, police have been cracking down on criminals in the district. “In the last week, police have arrested 100 anti-social elements. Stern action is being taken against the antisocial elements violating the Arms and Explosives Act, involved in murder, attempt to murder and rioting, and whose warrants are pending,” he added.
