Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers allegedly misbehaved with one of the women who asked some questions to Latika Pradhan, the MLA nominee of the ruling party for the Kabisuryanagar constituency in Ganjam on Tuesday night.

The incident happened while Latika Pradhan along with her party workers was campaigning at Beguniapada panchayat.

As per reports, a group of women intercepted the BJD leader’s vehicle and surrounded her before raising a number of questions about development.

Faced with such an unpleasant situation, the BJD leader’s supporters flew into a rage and allegedly abused a woman identified as Chhaya Behera. She was abused and pushed and when she fell down BJD workers kicked her, Chhaya alleged.

She further said that the BJD workers had done so on the instructions from Latika Pradhan.

Local residents rescued the woman and admitted her to Khallikote Hospital and later she was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.

After returning from the hospital, she filed a complaint at the police station.

Speaking to the media, Chhaya said, "We asked the MLA as to why she had come at the time of elections. We have no drinking water facility.  Even existing piped water is contaminated. Later, the MLA instructed party workers to move ahead. There were some drunken hooligans who pushed and kicked me aside.”

However, no reaction was received from the BJD MLA nominee.
