The Congress party in Odisha on Wednesday launched State-wide protests against the hike in the prices of fuel and other essential commodities. The protest will continue till July 17.

According to Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), demonstrations across the State will continue in different phases. Party workers will stage protests at every block office on Wednesday protesting rising fuel prices. Similarly, the members will demonstrate in front of subdivisions of all districts on July 9.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has broken the backbone of people. During this pandemic, oil prices have increased manifold which has further affected the common man. Fuel prices have also crossed Rs 100 mark in more than 150 cities of the country,” said PCC President Niranjan Patnaik.

He further said that the prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed owing to the steep rise in fuel prices.

“People are suffering because of the hike in fuel prices. The Centre must slash the oil price to help people fight the pandemic. We also urge common people to join us in the protest,” said Patnaik adding that a signature campaign in protest against the fuel price rise will be held in the Capital City on July 14.

“Another similar campaign will be organised at all the petrol pumps on July 17. We will also request the consumers not to buy petrol, diesel and gas on July 15,” appealed Patnaik.
