The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday called for a 12-hour Kalahandi bandh in the Western-Odisha district demanding resignation of Odisha Minister of State for Home Affairs, Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra whose alleged links with the accused, Gobinda Sahu in the mysterious missing case of a lady teacher has kicked off a hail storm in political corridors of the State.
Besides, the BJP has also demanded a CBI probe in this case citing the involvement of the Minister in the case which can cause the local investigative agencies to not function independently.
The bandh which will be observed from 6am till 6pm of Wednesday has paralysed normalcy in the district particularly in the district headquarters of Bhawanipatna.
An agitating BJP member picketing at the College square in Bhawanipatna said, “This BJD government has done nothing for the safety of women in the State. And as far as the case of missing lady teacher is concerned, we demand resignation of Captain Dibya Shankar Mishra for a fair investigation.”
The District BJP President of Kalahandi said, “This is a peaceful bandh and we request the locals of the district to show solidarity with the missing lady teacher’s family who has been through a lot. All the government and private offices, including the business organisations will remain closed today.”
“No vehicles will be allowed to ply on the road during the bandh,” he added.
Gobinda was nabbed by the police on Tuesday almost two days after he reportedly escaped during detention at the Titlagarh police barracks on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the family members of Mamita identified the articles found near a body that had been exhumed from an under construction site near the Mahaling Sunshine School as those of the missing teacher.
As per police sources, samples from the exhumed body will be sent for DNA profiling in order to ascertain its’ identity. Meanwhile, hundreds of BJP workers staged a massive rally in Bhubaneswar seeking immediate sacking of minister Dibyashankar Mishra. The party workers scuffled with police while marching towards Lok Seva Bhawan.
