The president of a school managing committee, who was detained in connection with his alleged role in the missing of a lady teacher, has escaped from the custody of Titlagarh Police.

Govinda Sahu, the president of Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling under Sindhekela Police limits of Kalahandi district, was detained on Sunday night for questioning in connection with the missing case of the lady teacher Mamita Meher.

According to sources, the accused went to the bathroom on the pretext of washing his hands and slipped out of Titlagarh police barrack.

Sahu was detained five days back after Mamita’s brother, Bunty had lodged an FIR accusing Sahu of his direct involvement in the missing of his sister.

Sahu was detained under the supervision of a senior officer and four armed policemen. Therefore, Sahu’s escape from police custody has raised serious questions regarding the security arrangements at the Titlagarh police barrack.

Titlagarh Police had installed checking points at several places in the town and launched a manhunt to nab Sahu. The police are also examining the footage of the CCTV cameras installed near the barrack.

Meanwhile, three police personnel who were guarding Sahu at the barrack were suspended from service by the Titlagarh SP for dereliction of duty on Monday.

Mamita has been missing for the last 11 days. The family members of the lady teacher alleged that Sahu used to force the women employees at the school to keep illicit relationships with him. Bunty had accused Sahu of being directly involved in her missing as she had threatened to expose Sahu.

Earlier, an audio clip of a telephonic conversation between a colleague of Mamita and her brother had gone viral in which the former was telling Bunty that Sahu had sexually harassed many lady employees of the school and Mamita had threatened to expose him.

Mamita’s colleague can also be heard telling Bunty that Sahu had called upon Mamita on the pretext of an official meeting, the day after which she went missing.
