The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress on Wednesday alleged that the prime accused in Mamita Meher murder case, Gobinda Sahu has been murdered and demanded a CBI probe into the case.
Addressing a press conference, Odisha BJP general secretary, Prithviraj Harichandan said, “Gobinda Sahu’s death seems to be a conspiracy which can be termed as the witness-wiping drive by the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).”
Harichandan further alleged, “It seems to be a regular affair for the Ministers of Odisha government to get involved in illegal activities and to wipe out witnesses after getting caught. A fresh example of such a drive is the death of Gobinda Sahu.”
“The Odisha government is trying to paint the murder of Sahu as a suicide. We demand a Central agency to probe this death and the Chief Minister should request the centre for the same as soon as possible,” demanded Harichandan.
The Congress was livid at the State government too. Kantabanji MLA and Congress leader, Santosh Singh Saluja said, “We think Gobinda Sahu has been murdered. Even his wife has alleged the same thing. All the Ministers, MLAs even the IAS and IPS officers are involved in sex scandal. And the government, in order to shield them, is murdering witnesses.”
“We demand either a CBI inquiry or a High Court-monitored SIT to probe the death of Sahu,” Saluja added.
Bringing Archana Nag, Mahanga double murder and Dharmendra Sahu death case into the debate, Saluja said, “Witnesses should beware. There is a risk to their lives. Even Archana nag is not safe now.”
Earlier, the DIG Prisons had suspended the warder of Kantabanji jail for negligence in duty terming him responsible for the death of Gobinda Sahu.
