A female home guard in Jagatsinghpur levelled multiple allegations of fraud and intimidation against a police officer, accusing him of allegedly maintaining physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage and later sending death threats to her and her family.

Details of the Complaint:

According to her complaint, the IIC of Jagatsinghpur police station Tapan Nahak, while serving as Additional IIC, allegedly engaged in a physical relationship with the complainant under the pretext of marriage.

She further stated that upon finding him reluctant to keep his promise, she lodged an FIR against him, accusing him of fraudulent behaviour; following which, the petitioner alleged that she was repeatedly pressured by Nahak to drop the case and also warned against approaching the media.

However, she was allegedly forced to lodge another complaint after being allegedly offered money in return for silence.

Claims of Hush Money:

The complainant further alleged that a constable summoned her to the Jagatsinghpur stadium on Saturday, reportedly on the orders of an Additional SP. During the interaction, he allegedly offered her Rs 25-27 lakh to settle the case.

In the same talks, she was allegedly warned of being dismissed from her job if she disclosed the matter to anyone, including the media.

“After being summoned to the stadium, a constable approached me and said that Tapan Sir would give me anywhere between Rs 25 to 27 lakh to drop the case. He also warned me of dire consequences if I refused,” she alleged.

Threats of dire consequences:

In her interaction with the media, the home guard also stated that she had mentioned specific names in her complaint, but the police have yet to take any action against them. She also claimed that two unidentified men visited her house and threatened her parents, warning them to make her withdraw the case or face dire consequences.

Police Response:

Meanwhile, IIC Tapan Nahak has reportedly been suspended and arrested. However, Jagatsinghpur SP Bhabani Sankar Udgata has refuted the allegations. “Everything she has stated is baseless. Reports of being called to the stadium and threat to life are all being claimed for vested interests,” he added.
