Kakatpur Police Station in Puri district
A young woman from Kakatpur in Puri district, alleged on Friday that her distant-related brother had previously attempted to rape her and the local police physically assaulted her when she had gone to the police station to lodge an FIR.
The disturbing allegations highlight serious concerns about police misconduct, prompting an investigation by the Nimapada Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO).
According to sources, a bizarre incident has emerged from Kakatpur block in Puri district, where a young woman alleged that her distant relative, identified as her brother, attempted to rape her. Seeking justice, she approached the Kakatpur Police Station to file a complaint.
Instead of receiving support, she claimed the police physically assaulted her and her relative. A female constable had slapped and pushed her during the ordeal, the FIR stated.
Following the complaint, the accused brother has been detained by Kakatpur Police, and Nimapada SDPO has confirmed that an investigation into the matter is underway.
Dual allegation—of familial sexual abuse and police brutality—has sparked concern about the treatment of women in distress, particularly in sensitive cases involving family and law enforcement.
Authorities have stated that a detailed inquiry is underway to uncover the full truth behind the incident.
“We went to the police station, but our FIR was not attended to; instead, he (a cop of the PS) put it aside. When my brother (not the accused person) asked about this, he told ‘Are you making videos?’ My sister was beaten as she was telling this to her father-in-law over the phone,” the victim woman expressed to OTV.
“When my mother, who has undergone surgery just 2-3 months ago, opposed the act (police excess), the lady cop pushed her hard,” the woman alleged.
No comments were received from the Kakatpur police in this regard.
