Transaction worth crores without knowledge! Odisha villagers allege fraud by bank

Twelve villagers from Jharigaon in Nabarangpur, Odisha have lodged a police complaint alleging crores of fraud involving their accounts at Utkarsh Small Finance Bank.

Alleging fraud worth crores of rupees at Utkarsh Small Finance Bank involving their accounts, as many as 12 villagers of Jharigaon in Nabarangpur recently lodged a police complaint. 

According to the victims, lured by loan offers with minimum interest rates, they opened accounts with the.  While they are yet to get their passbooks and chequebooks, transactions of crores of rupees have taken place involving their accounts. 

When they came to know about this, they felt the earth slipping from under their feet.

“I got suspicious when I didn’t get my passbook or chequebook. I visited an internet café and the person there told me that Rs 2.95 crore had been transacted in my account and a case has been booked in my name,” said Dasarath Santa, a villager. 

All the other 11 villagers have made the same allegation.

When contacted, Jharigaon police station IIC Tapan Kumar Pati said, “Investigation is underway. We have asked the bank to submit documents. After proper verification, we will take action.”
