Bridge & Roof Company GM Chanchal Mukherjee in CBI office
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) intensified its inquiry on Sunday into a bribery case involving around Rs 10 Lakh. CBI has taken Bridge and Roof Company general manager for Odisha Chanchal Mukherjee on remand. He is currently being quizzed as the CBI seeks further insight from him.
Earlier in the day, CBI sleuths carried out additional searches at the office of Bridge and Roof Company, uncovering substantial documents and bank statements pivotal to the probe, sources said.
According to the sources, the CBI is also examining Mukherjee's relations with Debadatta Mohapatra, the proprietor of Aditya Dev Infratech Private Limited, and Santosh Maharana, the director of Penta A Studio Private Limited, a construction firm.
The agency strives to elucidate the ties between these individuals.
On his lawyer’s visit today, Mukherjee received legal counsel. Simultaneously, leveraging CCTV footage, the CBI is interrogating the general manager of a prominent hotel to establish who congregated outside the five-star establishment before the raid.
“His health condition is not good and hence he did not say anything today. He has gone to hospital for treatment,” Mukherjee’s counsel Rajesh Mishra said mediapersons.
“Tomorrow I will file a bail plea on his behalf,” Rajesh Mishra added.
Worth mentioning, the special CJM court permitted the CBI to take three accused persons on an additional five-day remand on Wednesday in the seizure of around Rs 1 Crore from a luxury car in Bhubaneswar on December 7.
The CBI has taken into custody three individuals in connection with a high-profile corruption case in Odisha, including a contractor and an official of the construction firm.
