A CCTV footage that surfaced on Tuesday revealed a speeding Hyva truck chasing the car before the ill-fated vehicle was allegedly hit in a road mishap that took place in the Kantapali locality of Sambalpur district, killing two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

The footage, obtained by OTV, clearly captures the late-night occurrence where the Hyva, travelling at considerable speed, chases the car while negotiating a turning. The visuals illustrate the truck moving swiftly through the night.

When contacted, former senior cop Amaresh Panda stated, “CCTV footage suggests that the speeding Hyva had been chasing the car on the intervening night. The truck hitting the car also appears to be ‘intentional’. The fatal incident is apparently homicidal and is a case of murder. Hence, it should be probed from a ‘murder’ angle rather than an ‘attempt to murder’, as two persons have died.”

“After the car had taken a turn towards a village road to escape from further collision, it was chased and hit again. Driver of the truck is telling a lie that he dozed off after hitting the car for the second consecutive time. This is just unreasonable,” the former cop added.

Worth mentioning, two local BJP leaders identified as Goshala mandal president Debendra Nayak and former sarpanch Muralidhar Chhuria were killed when the truck hit the ill-fated car in which they were travelling, in the wee hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 AM on NH-53 under Burla police limits. Six occupants of the car including the driver were returning to Kardola from Bhubaneswar.

Earlier on Monday, the police confirmed that the Hyva truck had ‘intentionally’ hit the car. Two of them died and two others sustained grievous injuries in the incident.

“We have obtained video footage of the incident, which shows that the dumper deliberately hit the car. As a result, we have filed a case under Sections 307 and 302 of the BNS. We are also gathering additional scientific evidence,” Sambalpur SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said in a statement to the media.
