Two fraudsters masquerading as engineers looted Rs 60,000 from a mini bank operator in Simulia region of Soro in Balasore district.
The victim, Bholanath Sarangi, who runs a mini bank, was cheated by two scammers in broad daylight on the pretext of exchanging a five-hundred rupees note for five hundred rupee notes.
In a statement to the media, Sarangi said, “The miscreants projected themselves as non-Odias, working as site engineers and asked for the address for exchanging foreign currency. After some time, they asked for the highest currency note available with him.”
He further added, “After talking for a brief period, they demanded a particular series of 500 rupee notes on which Bhola allowed them to check from bundles of currencies available with him from which they cunningly took Rs 60,000 in three installments of Rs 20,000 each.”
Bhola found he was cheated when he counted his total cash of Rs1.44 lakh. The cheated amount was Rs 60,000.
The police, based on the CCTV footage of the incident, are currently investigating this matter.
