Following death of a person, it’s common for the grieving family to hold a ceremony where they perform religious rituals to help set free the soul of the deceased.
However, going against the custom, a man performed death rituals of his wife who is still alive. Yes, you heard it right. As his wife eloped with his friend, the irate husband performed her death rituals and hosted a feast for villagers.
The incident took place at Kurul village in Bolangir district.
According to sources, Akshay Rout and Bikash Jain were good friends. Bikash used to visit Akshay’s house and have fun.
In the meantime, Bikash and Akshay’s wife Sunita reportedly developed romantic feelings for each other.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is not the first time Bikash and Sunita took this step. Earlier they had tried to elope too. But, the matter was resolved with the help of the villagers.
This time, the duo eloped once again.
Meanwhile, Bikash’s wife Muskan has filed complaint with Adarsha police urging it to trace whereabouts of Bikash.
Muskan accused police of keeping mum over the issue.
On the other hand, Akhay had applied for divorce.
It is learnt Akhaya followed all the rituals starting from offering puja for the departed soul to hosting a feast for his relatives and villagers.
Speaking to OTV, Akshay said, “We follow certain rules in society. We cannot live in society without following them. A meeting was held in our village after Sunita eloped with her paramour and it was then the villagers advised me to conduct her death rituals.”
“She is dead for me as she left me and our children alone for the sake of her love. Now, I have to live with society and thus I obeyed its orders. That’s why I performed all death-related rituals for her”, said Akshay.
Interestingly, both Sunita and Bikash were into 13 years of marriage separately. And both are blessed with two children each.
That apart, Muskan and Bikash have carved tattoos on each other’s hand on the occasion of Karva Chauth. While Bikash wrote Muskan’s name on his hand, Muskan has written Bikash’s name on her hand during the festival.
