Relief from heat! Temperature to drop by 2-3 degrees across Odisha

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Relief from Odisha heatwave: temperatures expected to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius, with dense fog warnings in 10 districts, says IMD forecast. Check the updated and the latest weather changes.

Fog in Ganjam of Odisha

In a major relief from the heatwave that has gripped Odisha, the minimum temperatures are very likely to fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in 24 hours across several parts of the state, a forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated. No place went past 35 degrees yesterday even as the maximum temperature in 29 cities remained above 30 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, reports said.

However, the rising heat has subsided and the temperature has fallen with a further dip in coming days.

The current dip in mercury levels comes at a time when a large variation between maximum and minimum temperatures is being observed in many parts of the state. In the past week, anti-cyclonic circulations had seen temperatures places go past 35 degrees Celsius.

On Saturday, the highest temperature was recorded in Angul at 34.7 degrees Celsius, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Rourkela at 9.7 degrees Celsius. The erratic weather pattern also gave rise to similar conditions in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack where daytime temperatures touched 31 degrees but at night, mercury levels plummeted to 19 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued a dense fog warning amid dropping temperatures. A yellow fog warning has been issued for 10 districts for the next two days.

On February 9, dense fog is expected to reduce visibility to 50–200 meters in several areas of Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, and Malkangiri whereas similar conditions may prevail over certain areas of Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal on the next day.

The IMD also maintained that dry weather will prevail across Odisha until mid-February but foggy conditions and a drop in temperature will highlight weather patterns throughout this week.
