There are still days for January to end. But already the winter is fast fading in Odisha. To make matters worse, Koraput district on Thursday saw an unprecedented rise in maximum temperature with the mercury touching 33.2 degree Celsius.

Official sources said that this was the highest January temperature recorded in the past 52 years. Not only in Odisha, spring is disappearing across India, sparking concern among the people.

What Could Be The Possible Reason?

Many blame the human-caused climate change which is leading to dramatically warmer February temperatures in different parts of the country. It is quite obvious now that the winter season is becoming shorter. Similarly, the spring season is almost missing, leading to a straight transition from winter to summer.

In its extended weather outlook till February 5, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that there is no probability of cold wave conditions over any part of the country.

As per IMD, the minimum temperatures are likely to be between 4-8°C over many parts of northwest India (excluding the Western Himalayan Region) and above 8°C over the rest parts of the country during the week.

Minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal by 1-2°C over East and adjoining central India and near normal over rest parts of the country during the week, said IMD in its forecast.

Earlier in its outlook for the temperatures during the winter season (December2024- February 2025), the IMD had predicted above-normal minimum temperatures over most parts of the country.

In its latest forecast, the IMD has predicted a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by about 2°C over Northwest India during the next 24 hours and no significant change during the subsequent 4 days.

A Gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C is likely over Central India during the next 3 days and no significant change during the subsequent 2 days. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over East India during the next 24 hours and a gradual fall by 3-5°C during the subsequent 4 days.
