After a brief lull, Red Rebels have made their presence felt once again in Nuapada district. A group of Maoists reportedly threw bombs at a forest beat house at Golabandh village under Sadar police limits in Nuapada district in a late-night operation.

The residents of Golabandh village on Friday woke up to scenes straight out of a Hindi action movie. They found the forest beat house having been bombarded. With the recovery of Maoist posters put up at different locations in the village, the villagers didn’t take time to understand that it was the handiwork of the Ultras.

In the late-night operation, the Maoists also set a JCB machine parked near the beat house on fire.

While the posters are anti-government ones, they bear the name of the Nuapada-Mainpur Division. It is suspected that a gang of 15 to 20 Maoists swooped down on the village on Thursday night. While the villagers are in fear and apprehension following the incident, police are yet to reach the village.

"This is the handiwork of Maoists. They might have come in the wee hours and carried out the destruction," said a local resident.

It is pertinent to mention here that, over 10 Maoists on June 30 stormed into a crusher near Deokupali area under Muniguda police limits in Rayagada district and torched two poclain machines, five Hyvas and two loaders.

In the posters they left behind the Ultras justified their act saying the crusher units are creating pollution in the region apart from destroying roads and soil.
