Every year, between July 27 and August 3, the Maoists observe Saheed Saptaha, or the martyrs' week to remember their comrades. Even though there has been substantial drop in naxal violence in Odisha, the security personnel are not leaving any stone unturned and have stepped up security measures.

The police suspect red rebels may unleash terror in various parts of Odisha to make their presence felt during observance of the martyrs' week. Several posters have been put up by the Maoists in different parts of Kandhamal district. The posters have been recovered under Gochhapada police limits, Kuermunda, Pahireju and Balandapada areas of the district.

The security forces have intensified combing operations in Kandhamal district as a precautionary measure. Joint teams of district police, SOG and DVF are carrying out regular patrolling as the Maoists have also urged villagers to extend support to the Saheed Saptaha.

The movement of government buses by OSRTC on five routes have been suspended in view of the Saheed Saptaha of the Maoists.
