Ranihaat to Badambadi: Six iconic Durga Puja pandal gates get Orissa High Court approval

In a significant decision ahead of the Durga Puja festivities, the Orissa High Court on Thursday granted permission for the construction of six tall decorative gates (su-uchcha torans) across key locations in the city.

The Court’s directive comes as a big relief for Puja committees and devotees, as there had been uncertainty over whether permission would be granted for large decorative structures this year.

According to the order, clearance has been given for six prominent sites in Cuttack — Ranihaat, Chandini Chowk, Badambadi, Khan Nagar, Malgodown, and Shikharpur. These locations are known for drawing massive crowds during the Puja season, with the towering gates serving as both artistic attractions and cultural symbols.

The High Court made it clear that the permissions have been issued in two phases, ensuring that compliance and safety measures are strictly followed. Authorities have also been instructed to maintain public convenience, traffic flow, and overall security during the festival days.

With this decision, the city’s Puja preparations are expected to gain fresh momentum. The installation of these iconic gates is anticipated to enhance the grandeur of Durga Puja in Cuttack, which is celebrated with immense enthusiasm and is considered one of Odisha’s largest festive showcases.
