Crops of the farmers in Odisha have been insured and all affected by the recent rainfall will be compensated by the State government soon, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta asserted on Wednesday.
A dedicated committee will soon carry out an evaluation to assess the damage to crops, after which compensation money will be distributed to the affected farmers.
According to official sources, rigorous monitoring of the insurance companies is in place to ensure they fulfil their commitments. While not all crops have suffered, those bringing superior-grade paddy for procurement will receive a bonus of Rs 800.
“Due to recent incessant rain, several crops were damaged. Cooperative societies have insured the crops of all farmers. I want to inform the farmers through media that they need not worry at all,” the Cooperation Minister said while briefing mediapersons.
“I request the affected farmers to register their names in the designated crop insurance policy. A committee will reach the farmers and will carry out a survey. Based on the survey report, the affected farmers will get their due compensation,” the Minister stated.
Worth mentioning, the Odisha Government assured the perturbed farmers on Tuesday that the entire paddy will be procured soon, despite quality concerns arising from adverse weather conditions.
Heavy rainfall has led to fears of crop damage, yet Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra affirmed that the Government will purchase the produce, even if it fails to meet the Fair Average Quality (FAQ) standards. District Collectors have been instructed to ensure this support, the Minister asserted.
“Natural calamities will come and go. Odisha Government will compensate the crop loss by standing beside farmers as a Raksha Kavach,” Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari had said.
