Paddy crop damaged due to incessant rain
The evaluation of crop damages caused by the recent rainfall will be concluded within three to four days. Compensation to affected farmers will be disbursed on the fifth day, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari asserted on Monday.
The Minister instructed District Collectors to carry out thorough assessments promptly. Ganjam district appears to have faced the most severe impact from the rainfall.
According to sources, measures are in place to facilitate the sale of crops that still remain unaffected. The minister assured farmers not to fret about potential losses from floods or cyclonic storms, as the State government promises to compensate those affected.
Moreover, farmers holding crop insurance will receive pertinent assistance.
“Ganjam district was more affected due to the incessant rain. I was in touch with the District Collectors of southern Odisha and have directed them to make an early assessment. In the meanwhile, the rainwater has receded and damage assessment can be carried out, which was not possible beforehand,” the Revenue Minister said mediapersons.
“Revenue staff from non-affected areas will also be pressed into service to facilitate an early damage assessment, which is to be completed within three to four days. I want to urge farmers not to be perturbed at all,” the Revenue Minister expressed.
“Natural calamities will come and go. Odisha government will compensate their losses by standing beside them as a Raksha Kavach,” Minister Pujari assured.
