Railway expansion: Curfew imposed in Balasore for anti-encroachment drive and eviction

Balasore city imposes prohibitory orders for an eviction drive to clear unauthorized structures obstructing a third railway line project, affecting areas like Arad Bazaar to Pariba Market.

The district administration on Saturday imposed prohibitory orders in Balasore city to facilitate an eviction drive, to remove unauthorized structures, and clear illegal encroachments for a railway line.

The curfew will remain in effect today and tomorrow, from 4 AM on Saturday to 10 PM Sunday, and has been declared in areas such as Arad Bazaar to Pariba Market, Haripur to Darji Pokhari Chhak, Kasimila Bridge to Fuladi Chhak, and from Nuabazaar Railway Gate to both sides of the road leading to Pariba Market.

During the curfew, gatherings, meetings, and processions are strictly prohibited.

The city administration has issued a notice in this regard and has planned strict measures to clear encroachments in Jadupur, Aktiarpur, and Bhaskarganj mouzas of Balasore. As per reports, the encroachments were obstructing the work of a third railway line.

“A third line of the railways is being constructed and it is a project of national importance. However, several unauthorised structures have come up in the vicinity and are obstructing the smooth flow of work for which an eviction drive is slated to begin today and will continue until tomorrow,” said Sudhakar Nayak, the Additional District Magistrate of Balasore.

He also stated that eviction notices had been handed out well in advance and curfew orders had been issued as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

Incidentally, a third railway line from Narayangarh in Paschim Medinipur of West Bengal to Bhadrak, passing through Balasore, is under construction to reduce traffic and enhance connectivity.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated an 18 km stretch of the Gopinathpur Nilgiri-Balasore passenger railway line on January 18 last year and had stated an expedition of railway projects in the state.
