The initiative was part of the inauguration for the redevelopment of a total of 554 railway stations and 1,500 road overbridges (ROB) and road underbridges (RUB) across the country at an estimated cost of Rs 41,000 crore.
Vaishnaw submitted his nomination papers to the returning officer at the Odisha Legislative Assembly in the presence of Odisha BJP chief Manmohan Samal, other senior leaders, and 10 proposers.
“For the first time the allocation in railways crossed Rs 10,000 crore for Odisha in 2022-23 and the modernisation work of 58 Railway stations in Odisha is underway. Work to make the Puri and Bhubaneswar Railway stations world-class was initiated during the term of Ashwini Vaishnaw,” he added.
Vaishnaw had never been in parliament when he was named as the BJP candidate in 2019 despite the party lacking the numbers in the state assembly.
To a media query on the reason behind the ruling party’s backing BJP candidate for Upper House, Samal said, “BJP’s candidate Ashiwini Vaishnaw will file his nomination tomorrow and we will win in such a political scenario.”

The much-awaited 5G network service will be available in Odisha by March 2023. While attending a programme in Bhubaneswar, Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said the 5G services will be made available in the state by next year, most likely by March in the big cities.

The government will set up 100 5G labs across the country and some of these labs will become incubators to train students, promote innovation, research and experiment, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Sunday.
Out of these, tenders have been issued for 47 stations while master planning and design for the remaining stations is underway.
