Bhubaneswar is set to host the 18th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas starting on January 8, attracting dignitaries from across the globe, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar. 

In light of the significant gathering, extensive security measures are being implemented at Janata Maidan in the state capital.

Meanwhile, amid potential threats following a threatening email from Khalistani Terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Special Protection Group (SPG) on Sunday conducted mock drills to counter any potential threats.

Reflecting the urgency and importance of the event, these preparations are being undertaken with great speed and efficiency. Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja has personally overseen the arrangements, underscoring the high priority of security.

“The three-day long mega event will be attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. More than 3,500 NRIs have registered themselves for the event,” Ahuja said.

“I also request the Bhubaneswar residents to participate in the event and make it a success. We will ensure the visitors should have a better experience highlighting Odisha’s glory at a global forum,” he added.

The venue at Janata Maidan is bustling with activity as preparations continue. Workers are constructing the main stage where the inauguration will take place, alongside additional stages intended for cultural exhibitions.

The site will also feature displays highlighting Odia art and culture, showcasing the diverse cultural heritage of the region to delegates and visitors alike. 

Notably, over 10,000 guests, including more than 7,000 overseas Indians, are expected to join the celebrations. This occasion is not only a testament to India's enduring ties with its global Diaspora but also an opportunity to exhibit the unique cultural tapestry of Odisha to the entire world.
