The dedicated armed tactical unit
Security in Bhubaneswar has been beefed up with the arrival of a dedicated tactical unit of the Indian Special Forces as the state gears up to host the 2025 edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas from January 8 to January 10.
The special tactical unit arrived at the DG camp office in Bhubaneswar on Friday evening where the Commisionerate Police organised a meeting to review security measures in the state capital ahead of the highly-anticipated event.
The highly skilled combat unit of the special armed forces arrived equipped with multiple state-of-the-art weapons, wireless communication systems, and advanced gear, ready to take charge during any untoward incident.
Sources reported that the special tactical unit will be in charge of security at key junctions and keep vigil from vantage points of the city.
Incidentally, the security enhancements have been done at a time when Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun has issued a threat to disrupt the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas.
In an email to a Bhubaneswar-based journalist, Pannun referred to Bhubaneswar as a “terror city” instead of a temple city. Additionally, he also threatened that his supporters may disrupt the proceedings and warned people to avoid the area from Bhubaneswar airport to Janata Maidan.
It is pertinent to note that the Khalistani terrorist had also issued similar threats during the DGP-IGP conference held in Bhubaneswar last December. The event involved high-profile attendees including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NSA’s Ajit Doval, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
However, to thwart any untoward activity and actively curb such threats, the Commissionerate Police along with the Odisha government has made elaborate arrangements to ensure that Odisha’s maiden Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas goes with a memorable display of the state’s heritage and culture.
