Alleged killer of Sahadev in disguise
An intricate plot surrounding the murder of Police Mitra Sahadev Nayak in Bhubaneswar on the morning of January 8 continues to stir unease. Lipika Nayak, alongside her spouse, Laxmidhar, meticulously crafted the plan that is currently being disclosed in depth.
A video showing the woman to have covered her face has gone viral on social media.
Initially, Lipika’s demeanour appeared unassuming to investigators, with few believing she was capable of such a homicide.
During key accused Lipika’s incarceration over alleged involvement in the illicit brown sugar trade, she was in the process of hatching her deadly plan.
By 5 January, upon her release on bail, she had already laid out the strategy leading to the murder. The blueprint involved gruesomely killing of Sahadev.
Allegedly, dressing as a man and accompanied by a young accomplice on a motorcycle, Lipika reached Rasulgarh-Vani Vihar flyover on the intervening day. It was at this location she allegedly attacked Sahadev with a deadly weapon.
Purported video of the incident perhaps portrays Lipika's cruel act while in disguise. The motivation behind this heinous act reportedly stems from Sahadev's opposition to the illegal drug operation and his cooperation with local police.
Following the grim act, Lipika managed to flee the scene, disposing of the weapon into Daya River, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding investigation.
“Our family received explicit threats prior to his (Sahadev’s) murder, leaving us in a state of extreme distress. The threatening messages, which arrived well before his untimely death, starkly warned,” the deceased’s wife said.
Miscreants had mentioned a date and warned of severing the head and handing it over to the police. Despite approaching local police about the intimidation, Sahadev had received assurances of safety with phrases like, ‘We are here, nothing will happen to you’.
These responses suggest a lack of immediate protective measures. The backstory to this tragedy involves a case concerning 'brown sugar' (a form of heroin).
Lipika was earlier arrested when she believed that Sahadev's stance against drug trafficking led to her incarceration. Upon her release, Lipika is suspected of orchestrating a plot against him. The case is further complicated by the involvement of three other alleged masterminds who remain at large.
The victim’s widow expressed hope that these fugitives will be brought to justice as the investigation unfolds.
