Accused Chandan Parida from Jagatsinghpur
In Bhubaneswar, police have resolved the case of a young woman identified as Sneha Behera who had previously gone missing from the Khandagiri locality. She was allegedly killed by her male friend who works as a security guard in the Capital City, the twin city Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh stated in a press conference on Thursday.
The deceased woman belonged to Kandhamal district, the Police Commissioner stated.
An FIR was earlier lodged on January 10 at the Khandagiri Police Station, prompting an investigation that included tracking her mobile phone.
During the investigation, police discovered a connection between the missing woman and a security guard named Chandan Parida from Jagatsinghpur district. Police have detained Chandan Parida, accusing him of strangling the woman and subsequently disposing of her body. The accused had fled from the spot soon after committing the crime.
It has come to light that Chandan Parida is a history-sheeter and was previously linked to a rape and murder case. This revelation provides a stark conclusion to a case that had left the local community deeply troubled.
“A woman’s body was earlier found under the Dhauli Police limits area and a probe was initiated by registering an unnatural death (U/d) case, which has now turned into a murder. Initially, for long days, the young woman’s whereabouts could not be known,” the senior cop said.
“The deceased’s family could not provide any substantial clue to help proceed with the ongoing probe. However, during a thorough probe, Khandagiri Police Station IIC could ascertain that the woman had been using a different (new) mobile number, apart from the one given by her family. She was in relation with the accused security guard,” the senior cop stated.
“From tracking of mobile phone, the IIC could link the body found in Dhauli locality was of the missing woman as the accused and she had visited the place before the crime had occurred,” the Police Commissioner added.
