A woman’s body was recovered from the Daya River bed under Dhauli police limits in Bhubaneswar on Monday. 

The deceased has been identified as Bhagya Dakua, aged about 19, a resident of Hinjlicut in Ganjam district, who was residing in the Sisupalgarh area, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. 

On being informed, a team from Dhauli Police Station reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem. 

“Three months ago, a youth took my daughter along with him. Yesterday evening, he was about to dispose of the body on the banks of Daya River when police caught him. I was informed at around 4 AM. That youth has murdered my daughter,” said Hina Dakua, father of the deceased.

Registering a case, the police have launched an investigation. However, they have detained three youths who are being interrogated. All the detainees have been identified as the residents of Murshidabad in West Bengal. 

“Yesterday, we recovered the woman’s body and two bikes from the crime scene.  We have detained three persons who are residents of the Murshidabad area and were working as masons. As our investigation is underway, it is too early to say anything about the case,” said Pradipta Kishore Nayak, IIC of Dhauli Police Station.
