PM Modi launches 'Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Vidyalaya' initiative in Odisha to revolutionize primary education

In a landmark move to transform grassroots education in Odisha, the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government, in the presence of PM Narendra Modi, launched the ambitious Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamika Vidyalaya scheme.

The initiative aims to establish one model primary school in each of the state’s 6,794 Gram Panchayats, redefining access to quality education in rural areas.

The schools, named after legendary Odia educationist and nationalist Pandit Godabarish Mishra, are envisioned as inclusive, tech-enabled institutions designed in line with the principles of the Right to Education Act (2009) and the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).

Core Objectives: The Adarsha Vidyalaya initiative is focused on:

1.    Strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy
2.    Creating holistic learning spaces inspired by Satyabadi's iconic ‘Vana Vidyalaya’
3.    Promoting equity and excellence in education, particularly for marginalized communities.

Modern Infrastructure Meets Cultural Legacy: Each model school will feature:

1.    Smart classrooms with digital boards, language labs, and computer facilities
2.    Separate toilets for boys and girls, safe drinking water, and dining halls
3.    Playgrounds and green areas to encourage physical and co-curricular activities
4.    Digital libraries and activity zones to stimulate creativity

A unique facet of the program includes the revival of 45–51 heritage schools, each over a century old or the oldest in their district, further rooting the initiative in Odisha’s rich educational history.

Why It Matters: This program is expected to:

1.    Bridge the rural-urban divide in access to quality primary education
2.    Revive public trust in government schools by offering modern facilities
3.    Lay strong academic foundations for future generations under the state’s NIPUN mission
4.    Preserve and promote Odisha’s educational heritage

As Odisha prepares to execute this path-breaking initiative, the Godabarish Mishra Adarsha Vidyalayas stand as a testament to the state’s renewed commitment to educational reform, one that combines technological advancement with traditional values.
