Rejected Trump’s invitation to come to Odisha, the land of Lord Jagannath: PM Modi in Odisha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the first anniversary of the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government in Odisha with a spirited address to the public, beginning his speech with a heartfelt “Jai Jagannath” and greeting the people with “Juhar” in Odia.

Calling June 20 a "special day", PM Modi said the completion of one year of the BJP government in Odisha is a celebration of the faith and trust the people have placed in his party. “I dedicate this one year to the people’s beliefs in our governance,” he stated.

The Prime Minister commended Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and his team, applauding their vision and efforts in ushering in development and transforming Odisha into a model state for the nation.

Highlighting the cultural significance of the moment, he said, "As we complete one year, we are also on the brink of celebrating Rath Yatra, a festival that defines Odisha's spiritual identity.”

In a significant announcement, the Prime Minister recalled his government’s initiatives related to Jagannath Temple reforms, stating, “After forming the government, we resolved all issues surrounding the Srimandir, opened all its doors, and unlocked the Ratna Bhandar—honouring the sentiments of the people.”

He also shared a personal anecdote, revealing that during the G7 Summit in Canada, then U.S. President Donald Trump invited him to Washington, but Modi declined. “I told him, I must visit the land of Mahaprabhu Jagannath, so I came here,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.

The Prime Minister’s address underlined a blend of cultural pride, administrative accomplishment, and personal commitment to Odisha, as the state moves forward under a new political chapter.
