In a major development in the case of a woman sustaining severe burn injuries in Pipili, the Puri Additional SP on Wednesday revealed that there was no family dispute involved. Instead, she attempted suicide due to debt pressure.
As per reports, police have recovered a suicide note and a bottle of kerosene from the scene. The suicide note has been sent for forensic examination, and nearby CCTV footage is also being reviewed.
The woman has reportedly suffered 90 per cent burns and is currently on a ventilator. Police plan to record her statement once her condition allows. The Pipili SDPO has reportedly visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where the victim is undergoing treatment.
On the night of the incident, police had attempted to record her statement at the hospital but were unable to do so as she was not in a condition to speak.
Meanwhile, a police team visited Jaypur under the Pipili police station, where the incident occurred, to investigate the circumstances under which the woman got burned.

"As per the initial investigation, it has been revealed that she has committed suicide. We have found a bottle of kerosene and a suicide note from the spot. The suicide note will be sent to the handwriting bureau for further investigation. CCTC cameras installed in the areas have been collected, and we are verifying the footage. The victim is now undergoing treatment at AIIMS. She is under ventilator support. As per the preliminary investigation, it has been learnt that there was no family dispute involved. Instead, she attempted suicide due to debt pressure," said Puri Additional SP Sachin Patel.
