Jagannathprasad police station
A fatal road accident near Panchabhuti village under Jagannathprasad police station in Ganjam district claimed one life and left another critically injured on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Deepak Nayak, a resident of Chadeiyapalli village, while the injured, Yashoda Nayak, was reported to be his sister.
Sources reported that the accident involved an Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) bus and a scooter in a head-on collision.
According to eyewitnesses, the OSRTC bus was travelling from Cuttack to Baliguda when it lost control before crashing into the oncoming scooter. The impact was so severe that the scooter was completely mangled.
Deepak Nayak succumbed to injuries on the spot while Yashoda Nayak sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Jagannathprasad Community Health Center for urgent medical attention.

Following the accident enraged locals staged a protest by blocking the road and burning tyres, demanding immediate action against the bus driver and better road safety measures, urging stricter traffic regulations to prevent further mishaps.
The situation escalated until the Jagannathprasad police intervened, pacified the agitated crowd, and successfully cleared the blockade.

Authorities have seized the body of the deceased and sent it to Bhanjanagar for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and ascertain any possible negligence on the part of the bus driver.
