Alarming! Odisha witnessed 505 fatalities in accidents during Road Safety Month

According to the Minister’s statement, during the Road Safety Month, Odisha witnessed a staggering 505 fatalities due to road accidents. Additionally, a total of 848 accidents were reported during a month, leaving 472 individuals injured.

The issue of road safety in Odisha has come under sharp focus as alarming statistics on road accidents and fatalities were presented in the Odisha Assembly on Thursday. State Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena, responding to a query, provided data revealing the severity of the situation.

According to the Minister’s statement, during the Road Safety Month, Odisha witnessed a staggering 505 fatalities due to road accidents. Additionally, a total of 848 accidents were reported during a month, leaving 472 individuals injured.

The annual statistics paint an even grimmer picture. As per official records, a total of 5,433 people are losing their lives in road accidents across in a year. 

Action By Odisha Government

The Odisha government has been making efforts to curb such incidents, and Rs1.89 crore has been spent towards road safety awareness campaigns.

Despite the government’s initiatives, the rising number of road accidents highlights the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, improved infrastructure, and enhanced public awareness programs. 

The administration has assured that further measures will be implemented to improve road safety and reduce fatalities in the coming years.
