According to a source, one Purnachandra Bhukta is presently working as a junior assistant clerk at Angul district sports department. Prior to this, he worked as a peon at Kishorenagar block office. During that period, salaries of some months were not cleared due to some reasons. To get his salaries cleared, Bhukta had contacted Gaigaria. The latter had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to clear his salaries. With no option left, Bhukta visited the Vigilance office and sought intervention.

As per the plan, Bhukta on Monday visited Gaigaria and handed over the demanded money laced with chemicals to him. When Gaigaria was receiving the money, the Vigilance officials apprehended him and recovered the money from him. Subsequently, the anti-corruption wing carried out raids at Gaigaria’s office, his government quarters and his ancestral residence at Telinali.

The total value of moveable and immovable assets of Gaigaria is yet to be ascertained as searches are underway.
