A Junior Engineer (JE) of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWS&S) division allegedly escaped by jumping off roof when a team of Vigilance officials raided his residence in Jagamara area of Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The JE, Sunil Padhi was subsequently nabbed.

As per reports, vigilance sleuths conducted raid at Padhi’s residence on the allegations of accumulation of disproportionate assets to his own source of income. Simultaneous house searches were conducted by six DSPs, three inspectors, seven ASIs, and other staff at five places in Bhubaneswar and Ganjam.

However, the JE fled from his Jagamara house when the vigilance team reached there.

“When the Vigilance team knocked on the door of his residence in the morning at Jagamara, BBSR, Sri Padhy, apprehending trouble, went to the terrace of his building and jumped to a side building and fled away,” the vigilance sleuths said in a release.

However, after being nabbed, Sunil said that he has not escaped.

“I have never escaped by jumping off roof during vigilance raid. I was not even aware about the raid. Had I escaped, I would not have come back. I will cooperate in the investigation,” said Sunil.

The vigilance officials also conducted raids on the properties of retired ranger Jagabandhu Padhi, who is the father of JE Sunil Padhi, on the charges of accumulation of disproportionate assets to his own source of income.

As per reports, a five-member team of Cuttack Vigilance under the stewardship of DSP carried out simultaneous raids at Jagabandhu’s residence in Asika, a market complex owned by him at Asika bus stand, his father-in-law’s residence at Bhanjanagar and office.

The vigilance sleuths have seized gold, silver, cash and other documents during the raid.

Jagabandhu retired from service 10 years back.
