Odisha Minister Prithviraj Harichandan
The Odisha government has announced an ambitious project to alleviate traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar with the development of an underground metro rail system.
The initiative is set to connect Patia and the new CRP road, aiming to eliminate current transportation bottlenecks.
Odisha Works Department Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Sunday informed that this large-scale development is anticipated to be completed by 2025.
In a bid to further improve the city's connectivity, a new ring road encircling Bhubaneswar is scheduled for completion by 2027, the minister informed.
The Minister also confirmed the proposal for a road expansion connecting Acharya Vihar to Patia, which is expected to enhance accessibility and reduce travel times across the city.

These projects signal the state's commitment to modernising its transport infrastructure and addressing the growing urbanisation challenges faced by Bhubaneswar and its residents.
"The alignment of the metro rail system will be fully underground in Bhubaneswar. The Chief Minister has ordered the concerned department in this regard and the department has already started its work," said Minister Harichandan.
"To make the growth of Bhubaneswar more systematic and simultaneous, we have planned an inner ring road and outer ring road. The outer ring road will cover Khordha, Janti and Trisulia. Apart from these, capital region ring road will also be constructed," he added.
