Odisha to have 4 new medical colleges in these districts; 4000 doctors appointed in 10 months
Odisha government has unveiled plans to establish medical colleges in four additional districts. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the initiative during the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Cuttack. Odisha currently houses 12 medical colleges, with two more on the verge of inauguration.
New Facilities in Key Districts
During the Ayushman Bharat event, Chief Minister Majhi confirmed that new medical colleges would be erected in Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, and Nabarangpur. The state budget for 2025-26 has allocated funds for these developments.
Focus on Healthcare Employment
Highlighting the government's employment strategy, Chief Minister Majhi noted the recruitment of 4,000 medical professionals over the last 10 months. "In the coming days, steps will be taken to recruit an additional 5,000 doctors and dentists across the state," he affirmed.
A Commitment to Complete Coverage
The government's earlier commitment aimed to introduce medical colleges in each district of Odisha within five years, echoing a national initiative from 2014. This scheme includes a financial collaboration between the central and state governments, adhering to a 60:40 cost-sharing model.
