A controversial case involving a police sub-inspector (SI) allegedly marrying a minor girl in Jagatsinghpur district took a disturbing turn on Monday. A viral audio clip suggests the investigating officer (IO) threatened the victim’s mother instead of arresting the accused, sparking outrage and calls for justice.

According to sources, a fresh controversy has erupted in Jagatsinghpur after an audio clip surfaced allegedly featuring a police officer Dilip Kandi, the investigating officer in a case involving absconding Sub-Inspector Amit Padhi, threatening the mother of the minor who was reportedly forced into marriage.

The girl was allegedly married to SI Amit Padhi, who has since gone absconding. Instead of arresting the accused cop, the investigation appears to have taken a questionable direction. The viral audio suggests that Kandi, the Assistant OIC of Jagatsinghpur, threatened to arrest the girl’s mother, saying, “What would happen if I book your mother in a case?”

The victim’s family has raised serious objections. Despite the minor girl’s mother repeatedly seeking justice, the officer allegedly discouraged her and tried to intimidate the family into silence. The viral audio conversation, reportedly recorded during a phone call, has sparked widespread concern among activists and legal experts.

While the audio clip seems to clearly suggest threats, officer Dilip Kandi has denied making any such remarks when questioned, stating he never intimidated the victim’s family. Meanwhile, the victim’s lawyer added that no one from the girl’s family was present at the alleged marriage, further questioning the legality of the event.

Despite the mounting evidence, no action has been taken so far by the police department, prompting allegations of cover-up and misuse of power. The sensitive case highlights deeper concerns over police accountability, especially in cases involving their own personnel.

“What shall I do? The police station officials are not listening at all to my appeals. The SP (Superintendent of Police, Jagatsinghpur) told my daughter that he cannot take any action. We want justice at the moment. My lone daughter is telling me, she would immolate herself if justice is denied to her. We have already met the SP three times, but to no avail,” the victim minor girl’s mother expressed to mediapersons.

“It is since around four months that no step has been taken by police,” the woman added.
