Odisha police revitalise reinvestigation into Naba Das’ cook death case

Odisha police have revitalised their inquiry into the death of Lalit Sahu, who served as the cook for former Odisha Minister Naba Das. 

As per reports, summons have been dispatched to key individuals associated with the incident, requiring their presence at Jharsuguda police station.

Interrogations Underway

Meanwhile, on the third day of questioning, data operator Vikash Mahawar appeared before the police and was quizzed by the additional Superintendent of Police (SP), the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), the investigating officer, and other police officials. 

As per sources, Mahawar has shared his observations and explained his actions on that particular day.

Previously, several other parties were also summoned and questioned in connection with the case. Lalit’s father Belalsen Sahu had written a letter to the DGP expressing dissatisfaction over the investigation and requesting the reinvestigation into the case.

DGP Directed To Reinvestigate The Case

Earlier on February 14, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania had directed the Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police (SP) Smit P.Parmar to reinvestigate the mysterious death case of former Odisha Health Minister Naba Das’ cook Lalit Sahu.

Lalit was working as a cook in the Jharsuguda residence of Odisha Health Minister Naba Das. His body was found hanging in the Minister’s residence on April 17.

Earlier last month, expressing dissatisfaction over the probe by the Crime Branch (CB), Naba Das’ daughter Dipali Das had demanded the case to be transferred to CBI.

Senior BJD leader and former Health and Family Welfare minister Naba Das was shot dead on January 29, 2023 allegedly by an on-duty police officer Gopal Das in Jharsuguda district.
