Odisha matric exam: This is what led to error in science question paper

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) Odisha on Thursday confirmed that a computer virus led to a mistake in this year's science paper of the Matriculation examination, resulting in a discrepancy worth four marks.

President of the Board Shrikanth Tarai informed that the mistake occurred due to a computer virus.

Examinations Concluded

The Board stated that the examinations have been successfully completed. An array of new technological measures was adopted to safeguard the examination process.

Secure Exam Measures Introduced

President of the Board, Tarai further informed that watermarks and QR codes were included on the question papers as a deterrent against illicit distribution. As a result, the papers were not leaked online.

AI Enhancements and Evaluation Plans

The Board authority capitalised on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, employing AI cameras to monitor for irregularities during the exams. The Board plans to commence the evaluation of answer scripts on March 19, with the results anticipated in the first week of May.

President of the Board Tarai assured the public that steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in future examinations, reflecting the Board's commitment to maintaining examination integrity.

"Starting 19th of this month, we will begin the evaluation of the answer sheets and are aiming to release the results by the first week of May, as long as there are no delays due to natural calamities or other unavoidable circumstances,” said Tarai during an interaction with OTV.
