The crime scene being inspected by Odisha Police
A man allegedly set his neighbour’s house on fire after accusing his wife of having an illicit relationship with the accused man in the Nuabazar area of Paradip. The shocking act of arson was carried out on Sunday night, sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to eyewitnesses, the accused husband forcibly dragged his wife to the neighbour’s veranda before setting the house on fire. He allegedly did this following a confrontation with her, during which she reportedly confessed to the extramarital relationship.
The man then fled the scene with the couple’s two children, said sources. Reports then added that the fire department arrived promptly and managed to douse the flames before they could spread further. No casualties have been reported, but the house suffered significant property damage.
Paradip police have launched an investigation into the incident and managed to trace the accused. In an interaction with the media, he admitted to his crime but claimed that he did it in a fit of rage.
“I overheard my wife on the phone while she was talking to that man (the neighbour). He told her that I was her first husband and he was her second husband. When I confronted my wife about this, she tried to suppress the matter,” he said.
