Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Biswabandhu Panigrahi, superintending engineer of the PH Division, Bhubaneswar on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. 

The Vigilance Directorate, Cuttack, informed this by issuing a press release. 

According to the release, Panigrahi was arrested after he could not account for possessing assets to the tune of 338 percent of his known sources of income. Subsequently, he was forwarded to the court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.11 dated 09.11.2023 was registered against Panigrahi and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.

During raids, the following movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed in the name of the superintendent engineer and his family members:

1) A double-storey building with an area of approximately 2500 Sqft. over plot No.9505, House No.G/L-73 at VSS Nagar, Bhubaneswar.

2) An agreement made with Assotech and an advance of Rs. 39 lakhs paid by Panigrahi to purchase 3-BHK flat in the name of his spouse in Tower No.B5-0202 of Assotech Pride, Rudrapur, Bhubaneswar.

3) A single-storey building over plot No.1472/4523 at Mathasahi, Bhadrak.

4) Six plots in prime area of Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak were found. 

5) Bank, postal and insurance deposits worth Rs.4.02 crore.

6) Cash amounting to Rs.3,18,000. 

7) Gold jewellery weighing approximately 421 gms including 269 gm gold found from locker.

8) A four-wheeler and four two-wheelers and household articles worth approximately Rs.17 lakhs. 

Further investigation is underway.
