Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the previous BJD government over the fact that the Lower Suktel irrigation project, the foundation stone of which was laid in 1998, is yet to be fully functional.

Addressing a meeting at Belapada ground in Bolangir district, CM Majhi said that the Lower Suktel irrigation project was inaugurated in a hasty manner. However, it is yet to be fully functional and as a result, farmers are not getting any benefit out of it.

“How much water the farmers are getting in their farmlands? Where the money was spent meant for the construction of the Lower Suktel irrigation project?” asked CM Majhi.

CM Majhi alleged that buildings, flats, farmhouses and ornaments were purchase with the project money. He further alleged that Bolangir has been neglected for the last 24 years.

Moreover, the Chief Minister assured that his government will not make the mistakes committed by the previous government and they will fulfil all their promises.

“A particular government ruled Odisha continuously for 24 years. However, farmers in each block of the State could not get 35 per cent water for irrigation. Irrigation facilities are limited in Bolangir though the district gets less amount of rainfall,” said CM Majhi.

“The district has less than 20 per cent irrigation facilities. Many political leaders in the district talk a lot, but their work is almost zero. The previous government continuously neglected Bolangir during their tenure,” he added.

However, no reactions could be obtained from the BJD in response to the allegations of the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, CM Majhi inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of as many as 26 projects worth Rs 621 crore during his Bolangir visit.
