Odisha CM Mohan Majhi speaking on cybercrime
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted Odisha Television Network (OTV)’s popular programme on cybercrime titled ‘Cyber Crime’ on Tuesday while addressing a huge gathering on the occasion of National Consumer Rights Day.
The CM drew the attention of the audience to the unique programme aimed at raising awareness against cybercrime and spoke on the alarming increase in cyber fraud offences in Odisha.
During his address, Chief Minister Majhi commended the dramatised stories presented in the awareness programme, stating that they effectively depict the various methods through which individuals fall victim to cyber scams. The initiative strives to prevent cybercrime by illustrating real-life cases, thus educating citizens on the importance of digital safety.
The programme, which is an initiative of OTV, showcases the plights of persons who have fallen victim to fraudsters as well as educates the public about cyber fraud tactics, particularly the misuse of One Time Passwords (OTPs).
Drawing attention to the necessity for widespread public understanding of these crimes, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of vigilance and informed action in safeguarding personal and financial information online, in the modern-day scheme of living.
“Cybercrime gradually entangles us like an Octopus. After either being lured or after getting trapped, we usually provide our OTPs to the tricksters. In our bias to earn more profit, we lose a lot,” the Chief Minister expressed.
Worth mentioning, the National Consumer Rights Day, observed every year on December 24, commemorates the enactment of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
