A local trader was attacked and robbed of Rs 15 Lakh cash while he was travelling to the Chhatabeda weekly market under Raighar police limits in Nabarangpur district, on Wednesday.
According to sources, the assailants, reportedly a group of around eight launched the attack using sticks to overpower the victims. This illegal act follows a theft of Rs 20 lakh cash from a house in Nabarangpur town under Sadar police limits two days ago. The residents of the district are on edge following a series of robberies, including the recent one.
A businessman identified as Abdul Ansari, accompanied by his employees Guddu Dhoba and Yunus Lathia, was en route to the Chhatabeda weekly market near Parua panchayat. They were allegedly stopped by eight masked individuals who assaulted them with sticks. Despite Abdul’s efforts to hold onto the bag containing money, the attackers’ intense assault forced him to surrender it, allowing them to flee with the money.
Abdul is currently under medical care at Raighar Primary Health Centre (PHC) for his injuries. Guddu and Yunus were provided first-aid as they had sustained minor injuries.
On being informed, Raighar police reached the spot and initiated a probe. The police are diligently working to identify the perpetrators and recover the stolen funds. The probe team visited the crime scene with Guddu and Yunus to collect further information.
“My elder brother (Abdul) and two others were on their way riding a motorcycle to the daily market located at Chhatabeda when they were intercepted by some miscreants,” the victim trader’s younger brother Hasim Ansari stated.
“Around 8-10 persons suddenly attacked them and looted the money bag from my brother after injuring them,” the trader’s younger brother added.
