Arun Kumar Sahu, an Odia IFS officer, has been appointed as India's ambassador to Bulgaria. Currently Additional Secretary at MEA, he will soon assume the role, enhancing India's diplomatic ties.

In a matter of pride for the state, the Government of India has appointed Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Arun Kumar Sahu from Odisha as India’s next ambassador to Bulgaria, a key nation in South-Eastern Europe.

Arun Kumar Sahu, presently serving as Additional Secretary in the Ministry has been appointed as India’s next ambassador to Bulgaria, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) informed. 

“Arun Kumar Sahu (IFS: 1996), presently Additional Secretary in the Ministry, has been appointed as the Next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Bulgaria,” the MEA said in a statement.

He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

Sahu has been serving as Additional Secretary (Central Europe) in the Ministry since September 2022. His tenure is marked by notable achievements and expertise in various diplomatic fields. Hailing from Odisha’s Deogarh, the 1996 batch IFS officer had earlier served as Ambassador of India (High Commissioner of India) to Trinidad, Tobago.

During his illustrious career, Sahu has amassed a wealth of experience across various capacities. His vast experience in international diplomacy is expected to contribute significantly to promoting India’s interests in the region. 

He completed his schooling at Ravenshaw Collegiate School in Cuttack and Chandra Sekhar Behera Zilla School in Sambalpur. Later, he did his higher studies at erstwhile Ravenshaw College. He also has done his Master’s degrees in the fields of War in Modern World and Linguistics from King’s College London and Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi respectively.

His roots in Odisha’s Deogarh, a testament to his journey from his village in Kansara, showcases a successful career path that has now led to this prestigious diplomatic role.
